Produce is Coming Off!

Ahhh, the wonderful smell and taste of fresh garden vegetables!  Peas have been producing as much as they can with the deer and rabbits pruning them every night.  The green beans are starting to really produce, the tomatoes are starting to ripen.  The okra is just beginning to bloom - again the deer and rabbits LOVE to prune!  The cabbage, broccoli, and brussels sprouts have all been harvested (and eaten since the summer started so early for us this year).  Squash has been on the table nearly every evening, with enough left over for some zucchini in the freezer for Christmas bread, but the cucumbers are having a hard time so far.  The banana peppers have far surpassed the cucumbers, but the grandson eats them as fast as they are big enough to pick, so unless they get really busy there won't be any for the freezer!
Does all this sound like something you might enjoy?  I know it is a lot of work in the beginning (only as much as you want to do), but once you harvest and taste your own vegetables, feel the success you have growing your safe and healthy food, you will want to do more and more each year.  And it will become easier for you as you get into a routine of what works for you and your circumstance.
Anyone can do this.  And everyone should do this.  Whether you do it in pots on your porch or deck, replace a few of your plants in the flower bed with edible goodness, or have some space in your yard to build a raised bed - you should at least try it!

There are many places to learn how to garden for every situation imaginable.  If you have never done any gardening before you might want to start with a beginners guide to walk you through the preparation, choosing, planting, and caring for your food production.
